Word-by-word captions for clips
In short: word-by-word captions show and highlight each word as it is spoken. Get them by transcribing the clip with word timings, then style them big, high-contrast and short per line, placed where the app's buttons won't cover them. Check names and slang by hand before posting.
Why they help
- People can follow a clip with the sound off.
- The moving highlight pulls the eye to the speech, which helps with fast talk and accents.
- Burned into the picture, they show the same on every network.
Making them read well
- Short lines. A few words at a time, so the eye doesn't chase a sentence across the screen.
- Big and bold. A heavy font with an outline or a box behind it reads on any background.
- One highlight colour. Colour the word being said; keep the rest white.
- Mind the buttons. TikTok, Shorts and Reels put buttons and text along the bottom and right; keep captions in the middle area.
- Fix the words. Automatic transcripts slip on names, game terms and slang. Read every clip once.
Doing it with RipClip
- Clip a stream (paste a Kick or Twitch VOD link) or upload a video. Every clip comes with captions timed word by word.
- Open a clip in the editor and pick one of 19 one-tap caption templates, or set your own look.
- Choose from more than 90 fonts and 19 caption animations, set the highlight colour, size and position, and edit any word in the transcript.
- Save the look as a preset so every clip from your next stream starts with it.
Caption translation is a Premium feature. See the glossary for burned-in vs closed captions.
